A footnote on the live version
I wanted this to run on its own, right in your browser, with a free model on your machine, so it could ship as a plugin and never call a server. So I tried it. I ran a small coder model on WebGPU, the kind that lives entirely on your device, and had it write the CSS on the spot while you watched.
It works the way a demo works. It just isn’t good enough to trust yet. The models small enough to fit in a browser lose the thread halfway through a stylesheet, and on older pages like Hacker News they mostly give up. The wait before the first line of CSS showed up was long enough that calling it real time felt like a stretch.
So the looks here are made ahead of time for now. The on-device version is parked, not buried. Browser models get better every few months, and the first one that can hold a whole theme in its head turns this back on. When it does, the web really does get to look like yours, with nothing in the middle.
